Rectangular Sleeping Bags

It will be an exciting weekend!

You are going to on a camping trip with your friends at Yosmite National Park. Everything is packed: tent, torch, clothes, first aid kit, food…except the sleeping bag. Which one is best?

There are different types of sleeping bags like mummy, rectangular, tapered, women-specific, and junior sleeping bags. If you are the type who wants more room in your sleeping bag, the rectangular sleeping bag is just the thing for you.

A sleeping bag is a bed and a blanket rolled into one. It can be zipped up to form a bag for warmth or spread open in warm weather to provide a bigger sleeping area. It is mainly used for outdoor slumber during camping or bivouacs. Its main purpose is to keep the cold air away from your body (thermal insulation). It may also protect a person from rainfall, wind chills, and exposure.

A rectangular sleeping bag is usually used by casual campers because of its spaciousness and affordability. This is because most are made up of cotton or cheap synthetic material. For added space sharing, two bags may be zipped together. This sleeping bag is best suited for warm weather because it does not preserve heat.

However, there are disadvantages in using a rectangular sleeping bag. It is bulky and too heavy in comparison to other sleeping bags. Because of the design of the rectangular sleeping bag’s zipper, it allows heat to escape that is why it is not recommendable to use in cold weather. Lastly, due to the absence of a built-in hood, it is not the sleeping bag of choice for serious wilderness campers.
